I’m Mike Scarbrough and it’s brew day at Barrio Brewing Company, let’s go check it out buddy!
Jaime Dickman: So Barrio Brewing started back in 1991 as Gentle Ben’s Brewing Company. We are the first full grain brewing company in Tucson. In December 2019 it was announced that Denis and Tana are looking to move into retirement and they were looking for some different options of what they could do and when it came down to it they realized that what made them so successful in Tucson is the employees and the community. So they had offers to come and buy the business, but they knew that just wasn’t right, they wanted to make sure their employees were taken care of and that Barrio remained Tucson local so in December 2019 it was announced they would be giving the company to the employees and so starting in 2020 it’s all us. Making sure that we continue the quality are we hire fantastic people we continue to serve the community, look for opportunities with different charitable organizations it’s really important to us that we stay local and keep that community foundation going on.
Brennan Young: Hi, my name is Brennan Young, I go by Young and I’ve been the General Manager here at Barrio Brewing Company since 2013. Besides brewing the oldest beer here in Arizona, the Barrio Blonde, we also have a couple of award-winning beers at the great American beer festival. We have our Nolan’s Porter which won bronze medal in 2008, we also have our Barrio Rojo which won the bronze medal in the Scottish style amber in 2015. We’re very proud of that.
Luke Edwards: I’m originally from South Africa, my wife is from Tucson she bought me over here a few years ago. I just got back a few days ago so I’m seeing that the beer industry is really cool, and very different over there, very different styles, very different focus, but it’s still really cool and really good. A lot of the beers I miss over there when I’m here, and then when I’m over there I miss the beers that I drink here. It’s quite a cool balanace when I’m on different sides of the world.
Right now I’m enjoying the Mocha Java Stout, with that colder weather, that coffee and chocolate especially having a nitro option available, it’s really good. I enjoy doing that a lot. If I’m doing a bit of daytime drinking or working in the yard then I definitely go for the Hazy IPA. Bit more fruity, quite fresh.
And then also the Blonde and the Rojo, those are two of my biggest go-to’s whenever I’m out or if I’m eating. Those are my favorite consistent beers that we have too.
Customer #1: I’m here at Barrio, I’m drinking the Rojo, it’s really good. It’s the beer of the day because there’s some kind of beer event going on this month. And the food is great, service is really good, and it’s location, location, location!
Customer #2: We like coming to Barrio Brewing because they have the Hipsterville IPA which is one of our favorites, very good happy hour prices, and very good food. We like coming here, they are very friendly, and good fun!
Customer #3: It’s the best beer around, they make a good stout. Dennis really cares about the food, and I get food here once in awhile.
